…as Nkana meet Algerians

 By MICHAEL MIYOBA

ZAMBIA’S representatives in the CAF Champion’s League, Zesco United Football Club, have been pared against Ivory Coast giants, ASEC Mimosa, in the tournament’s second round fixtures scheduled for next month.

Zesco secured their second round spot after humiliating Zanzibar champions JKU, 7-0 in the first round second leg fixture at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Wednesday to advance by the same aggregate score line following a goalless draw in the first leg played on February 10 in Zanzibar.

Zesco will travel to Ivory Coast next month to play ASEC Mimosa as both sides battle for a place in the 2018 CAF Champions’ League group stages.

ASEC booked their March date against Zesco following a 3-2 home win on Wednesday in Abidjan over Benin side Buffles to advance 4-3 on aggregate.

Zesco will host Mimosa on March 7 in the first leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola while the final leg is set for March 17 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Zambia’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup Nkana will face Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad in the second round of the competition.

Belouizdad beat Nierela FC 3-1 on aggregate after recording a 1-1 draw in Mali and a 2-0 win at home in the two legged fixture.

The six time Algerian league champions last featured in the confederations Cup back in 2010 were they reached the round of 16 while Nkana reached the group stages in 2014 and will travel to Algeria for the first leg set for March 7.
