THE Wisdom Kaunda led Zambia Table Tennis Association (ZTTA) interim executive committee has stepped down as per directive from National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ).
NSCZ on Monday announced the dissolution of the interim executive to pave way for an elective annual general meeting.
Kaunda in an interview said he was happy with the achievements made during his short tenure in office.
He said his executive managed to reach out to all the provinces of Zambia and set-up structures to ensure there was a direct link with the motherbody.
He also said that the committee had manged to host three major tournaments in Lusaka and Copperbelt.
“We coordinated inter provincial school games in Solwezi and the Zambia University Sports Association at Mulungushi University. Our participation at the African Union Sports Council Region 5 games last month was a milestone in table tennis,” he said.
Kaunda made it clear that his executive did not intend to stay in office for long and had set July 29, 2017 for an elective AGM, but were blocked by a court injunction by former president Charles Chenda.
He has appealed to NSCZ to be firm and avoid dancing to the tune of selfish individuals not ready to give up power.
“If some individuals who took the matter to court cannot attend a mediation meeting when invited, then we must move forward and make a final decision on elections before the sport dies,” he said.
Kaunda said his desire was to witness ZTTA host democratic elections which has never occurred for over eight years.
