JUMBO KILLS SIAVONGA FARMER

A 20-year-old man of Kabuyu village in Chief Sinadambwe’s Chiefdom in Siavonga has been killed by an elephant.

The man identified Mr Contred Hakaluba was killed on Wednesday while working in his field by a wounded elephant.

Siavonga District Commissioner, Ephraim Mwanjawanthu, who confirmed the development, described the incident as unfortunate.

Mr Mwanjawanthu narrated that elephant was wounded in the leg by poachers in Gwembe district and was on the loose.

“The wounded elephant is in a group of four, two males and two females that had previously crossed the Zambezi River from Zimbabwe,” he said.

He disclosed that officers from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife had been deployed to keep vigil of the deadly elephant.

Mr Mwanjawanthu, therefore, warned the community in Kabuyu village to keep away from the wounded elephant to avoid conflict.

He further advised the community to be on high alert and report any elephant seen roaming the village to avoid further loss of life.
