PF SUSPENDS CHILANGA OFFICIALS OVER FRACAS

By SIMON MUNTEMBA

SIX Patriotic Front district and constituency officials in Chilanga have been suspended for alleged misconduct during filing in of the nomination of Ms Annie Brown as Chilanga District Council chairperson.

Announcing their suspension at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, PF Secretary-General Davies Mwila said  his office has decided to suspend the six officials for having spearheaded the confusion that erupted  during the filing in of the nomination of Ms Brown.

Mr Mwila named the suspended six officials as district chairperson Daniel Sikabnyika, vice district chairperson Francis Malauni, and district youth chairperson Eosebio Simbao.

Others are Chilanga North constituency youth chairperson Enock Chiwati, Chilanga South constituency chairperson Gilbert Mafuti and his vice Augustine Zulu.

“The suspensions are indefinite and I am hereby directing all those affected to immediately surrender all party property in their possession,” Mr Mwila said.

He warned that he would not condone any form of indiscipline, violence or lawlessness from any member.

Mr Mwila said PF was a peaceful party and he would not allow a few misguided members to tarnish its image and that of the President.

He also assured the public that the PF will run violent-free campaigns which will be issue-based in the forthcoming Presidential and general elections.

Meanwhile, the police have refuted allegations circulating on social media insinuating that one sympathiser of the PF identified as Job Lusanso aged 66 died in Parklands of Chilanga as a result of teargas smoke purported to have been discharged by police officers during nominations.

Police public relations office, Esther Katongo said “as much as we are aware that there was confusion which erupted during nominations between two factions of the PF in the area, police did not discharge any teargas smoke to disperse the crowds.”

Ms Katongo said Mr Lusanso was reported to have collapsed and was taken to Chilanga Hospital where he died.
