THE Zambia police and the Ministry of Lands should ensure that they secure documents relating to contentious issues such as the Hatembo farm in Kalomo, The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has said.

YALI executive director, Andrew Ntewewe explained that the police should work with the ministry of Lands to ensure that the documents for the farm in question are secured so that the investigations are thorough and justice prevails.

He said YALI has been calling for the release of the two Hatembo siblings by their abductors so that they start all over again as normal people.

Mr Ntewewe said that police should also carry out a thorough investigation so that every person who was involved in the changing of land titles at the ministry of Lands are brought to book.

“We cannot allow some powerful men to take advantage of vulnerable people by taking their land, the police should ensure that the documents at the ministry of Lands are secured because that is the only evidence that we have to prove this case.

“And also the people who were involved in the changing of land title at the ministry of Lands for farm number 1924 in Kalomo are also charged and brought to book,” Mr Ntewewe said.

He said that the issue of the Hatembos is not a political matter but a criminal one hence justice must prevail and that the abducted Siblings should be released.

Mr Ntewewe also called on civil society organisations and the church to join in calling for the release of the Hatembo siblings.

The Zambia Police Service is still investigating and looking for Pheluna and Milton Hatembo.

The siblings are both witnesses in a case where UPND president Hakainde Hichilema is alleged to have fraudulently acquired farm number 1924 in Kalomo.

The duo has been missing for more than two months after allegedly being abducted.

Meanwhile, five suspects, Ackson Sejani, Fines Malambo, Javern Simooloka, Vincent Lilanda and Veronica Mukuni are appearing in court in connection with the abduction of the two witnesses.
