WE should never put the country on fire regardless of the outcome of the August 12, general election, President Edgar Lungu has said. President Lungu urged Zambians not to be driven into violence by people who do not mean well, especially now that campaigns had commenced.
The President was speaking yesterday in Lusaka, when he commissioned the newly constructed multimillion Kwacha Kanyama Police Station.
President Lungu also called on all peace loving Zambians to report all trouble makers to the police.
“There is no need to be violent when your leaders are not violent. We should never put this great country on fire regardless of the outcome of the results on 12th August,” he said.
President Lungu said the construction of Kanyama Police Station, the first of its kind since the township was established, would enhance security in the area.
He said Government had prioritised the security of citizens because it was a key component to peace and nation building.
“When there is peace and tranquility in an area, business flourishes.
What’s more, this police station will also improve access to justice,” President Lungu said.
President Lungu said with the commissioning of the police station in Kanyama, he expected enhanced security in one of the largest townships in the country.
He said as President, it is his responsibility to ensure the country enjoys peace and tranquility
“It is my responsibility as President of this great nation to ensure peace and tranquility in all townships of Zambia. This is why I am equally delighted that finally Kanyama has a police station,” he said.
Mr Lungu paid special commendation to the business sector and the people of Kanyama for working with the government to realise the dream of constructing the police station.
President Lungu said in his government’s quest to transform the working environment of policemen and women, his administration will continue constructing better accommodation for the officers.
He said his government has constructed 2, 350 housing units across the country which have since been commissioned and are occupied.
He appealed to residents of Kanyama to safeguard the infrastructure by reporting vandals to the police, adding that the culture of destroying infrastructure meant to protect the people should stop.
