DON’T SELL MAIZE TO BRIEFCASE BUYERS, EAST PS URGES FARMERS

EASTERN Province Permanent Secretary, Ms Veronica Mwiche has advised farmers not sell their maize to briefcase buyers.

She noted that selling to other buyers instead of the Food Reserve Agency (FRA), will be counterproductive and will negatively affect the ability for the government to secure strategic food reserves.

Ms Mwiche who has also declared the province ready for fertiliser distribution, said farmers should ensure they avoid smuggling of maize outside the country to promote domestic food security.

And Ms Mwiche is happy that all farming inputs have arrived in the province awaiting distribution once farmers deposit their contributions.

She disclosed that 35, 890 metric tonnes  of D compound and 27, 260 of urea have all been delivered to the province.

Ms Mwiche was speaking in Chipata when Neria’s Investiments General Manager, Martin Chaikatisha paid a courtesy call on her to update her on the FISP distribution exercise.

Mr Chaikatisha has pledged to continue with the consistency to ensure farming inputs are delivered on time so that farmers can adequately prepare.
