HELP END VIOLENCE, VEEP URGES CHURCH

By KETRA KALUNGA
VICE President Inonge Wina has challenged the church to rise up and help the government end acts of political violence taking place in the country.

Ms. Wina said the church should take centre stage in ending the violence because they have authority over the powerful forces pushing the country into political instability.

She was speaking in Kabwe yesterday when she met the clergy from Kabwe ministers’ fellowship.

Ms. Wina urged the church to remain steadfast in prayer and to condemn political leaders who would be seen to be perpetrating violence during the election campaign period.
She said the church had a major role to play in ensuring that the country holds elections in an orderly and dignified manner.
“Youths are being used as tools of violence because they are being brainwashed by people who perpetrate violence, I challenge Christian men and women to come out and stop the violence,” she said.
Ms. Wina also urged the church to continue praying and guiding the government on various national matters because it stands ready to listen.
And Kabwe minister’s fellowship chairperson, Bishop Hector Sinyangwe said the church is saddened by the political violence taking place is the country.
Bishop Sinyangwe said it’s sad that political violence has continued to take place in a country that has identified itself as a Christian nation.
He said it is for this reason that the church appealed to President Edgar Lungu to call for a meeting with political party leaders aimed at denouncing any form of violence in the country.
