‘IT’S NOT OVER’

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

DESPITE Zesco United needing only two points to win the 2020/2021 MTN Super League, Zesco United gaffer Numba Mumamba says the league is not over and the Ndola outfit will have to stay focused to claim the title.

Mumamba said anything can happen in the remaining four games hence the need for Zesco United to prepare adequately for the remaining fixtures.

Speaking after guiding Zesco to a 4-0 humiliation of relegation-bound Kitwe United, Mumamba said it would be a grave mistake for his players to relax when they still have more challenges ahead.

“We still have some more games to go we just have to get back to training and prepare the team so that we can prepare to win the league as quickly as possible.

“We should not relax. It is not yet over until it is over. In football anything can happen so we have to prepare our team for the challenges ahead of us,” Mumamba said.

Zesco United became the first team to qualify for the CAF inter-club championships from the MTN Super League which they dominate with 61 points, eight points ahead of second-placed Zanaco FC.

Meanwhile, Zesco United all-time record goal scorer Jesse Were says scoring 100 goals for the team came with a lot of challenges.

On Sunday, Were scored a hat trick to inspire Zesco to their 19th league win of the season after demolishing Kitwe United at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The Kenyan international who joined Zesco United in 2016 from Tusker FC said the achievement has motivated him to score more goals to help Zesco achieve its objectives.

“Scoring 100 goals makes me feel good. People behind me have supported me too much and being the all-time goal scorer is a big achievement and it is a step for me and my career because it has been hard but I kept on pushing and I believed in myself and I have done it now.

“Going forward I need to score more goals to help my amazing club achieve the targets,” said the Kenyan.
