DESPITE the Chipolopolo having struggled to beat tiny Benin in Tuesday’s international friendly match which ended 2-2, Chipolopolo coach Mirutin “Micho” Sredojevic has no regrets with his team’s performance.
“Micho” said the game against Benin helped the Chipolopolo to grow as a team before the World Cup qualifiers slated for September.
He said, like the 3-1 defeat to Senegal on Saturday, the game against Benin presented the Chipolopolo many lessons to draw from on how the team can improve.
He said the main purpose of going to West Africa to play friendlies against Senegal and, Benin was to help the team which is without seven of its star players to gain some experience ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
“We wanted to widen the pool of players that can help us in the World Cup qualifiers.
“I want to thank Benin. We had a good game and like I said earlier the game was more than 30 training sessions in my opinion because Benin was a realistic competitive nation which gave us and taught us so much lessons on who can and who can’t,” said “Micho.”
“I’m happy with everyone. What went wrong, we need to correct and what was right we need to keep it up so that in September when we play against Mauritania and Tunisia in the World Cup qualifiers, we will be prepared in the best way,” said “Micho.”
After losing the first friendly 3-1 to Senegal and drawing with Benin, Zambia will conclude its friendly matches tomorrow with a tie against Sudan in Omdurman.
