THE Central Province multi-sectoral team has enhanced inspection of districts to ensure strict compliance of the Covid-19 guidelines.
Senior local government officer, Kabaso Chisanga, said the programme which started in Itezhi Thezi on Monday was aimed at ensuring compliance to the guidelines as a preventive measure.
He was speaking in an interview in Kapiri Mposhi yesterday during the disinfection of Tanzania Zambia Railways Authority (TAZARA) premises and coaches.
Mr Chisanga said the exercise would help prevent the spread of the pandemic, which was claiming lives at an alarming rate.
He said railway stations were among the super spreaders of Covid-19 and therefore, the disinfection exercise would go a long way in preventing the spread of the pandemic.
He said the disinfection exercise was timely because rail stations by nature were crowded places and this qualifies them to be Covid-19 super spreaders.
“Railway stations are one of the places that gets congested by the passengers hence becoming super spreaders so picking on the place was timely,” she said.
And Kapiri Mposhi Council Secretary, Issac Zimba, said the local authority, working with the multisectoral team, had enforced the Covid-19 guidelines to prevent the further increase in number of cases which were already high.
Mr Zimba said the district, being centrally located, was vulnerable to the pandemic hence the need to enforce the guidelines and mitigate the spread of the pandemic.
“The district has a spike in cases of Covid as most people converge here because it is centrally located and spraying TAZARA coaches and the platform is one measure of ensuring that people are safe,” he said.
