RUFUNSA district has not been spared from the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and has recorded 1, 890 Covid-19 positive cases between June and July this year.

Rufunsa District Health Director (DHD), Angel Mubanga made the observation during the commissioning of two health posts in Chaola and Ndubulula areas in Chieftainess Mpanshya and Chief Bunda Bunda’s respectively.

He lamented that the Covid-19 pandemic has not spared the district with more than 1,890 positive cases recorded in the period June to July, 2021.

He therefore called on the residents to take advantage of the free vaccines that the government was administering to help fight the pandemic.

He encouraged the residents not to shun, but take the covid-19 vaccine to help fight the pandemic.

Dr. Mubanga disclosed that the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) funded projects were constructed at a total cost of K500, 000.

He commended the government for initiating numerous health infrastructures and distributing medical supplies in the district. He therefore urged the residents to take good care of the facilities and access healthcare at the facilities that have been brought to their doorsteps.

He observed that the government has continued improving and building health infrastructure in the district in its quest to take quality health services closer to the people.

Meanwhile, Zambia has in the last 24 hours recorded a total number of 720 new confirmed COVID-19 cases out of the 6,426 tests conducted, reflecting a positivity rate of 11 percent.

The country has further recorded a total number of 1,025 recoveries from both COVID facilities and home management, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries 187,236 which reflects a recovery rate of 96 percent.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Kennedy Malamasaid the country recorded 13 new COVID-19 related deaths adding that currently there are 5,191 active cases of COVID-19 under community management and isolation centers.

Dr. Malama also announced that an extra 100,000 doses of Sinopharm donated by the People’s Republic of China is expected in the country on August 7, 2021 and another 119,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from the United Kingdom(UK) government as part of the dose sharing through the COVAX facility in the coming week.

He said he would announce soon when the government procured Johnson and Johnson doses and the donated Pfizer will be arriving in the country.

He has urged the public to remain resilient even though the country is recording reduced numbers in new cases, hospitalizations and COVID-19 related deaths as the number of critically ill patients still remains high.
