CBU STUDENTS PROTEST OVER ‘SEX FOR GRADES’ AND NON -PAYMENT OF MEAL ALLOWANCES.

The Copperbelt University (CBU) has instituted investigations into reports of sexual harassment of some female students by lecturers in exchange for better results at the institution.
And Pheonix FM has reported that over 50 Copperbelt University-CBU- students last night attempted to protest against the nonpayment of meal allowances by blocking Jambo drive before they succumbed to reason from university management.
ZNBC’s Clinton Masumba reported that CBU vice Chancellor Professor NAISON NGOMA has encouraged students who may have been harassed to use the existing channels to report any wrong doings.
This is after Some Students at CBU took to social media to complain about alleged sexual harassment by some lectures in exchange for better results and academic overload which has allegedly led to some committing suicide.
Speaking at a media briefing in Kitwe today Professor NGOMA, dismissed the allegations stating that such claims have not been reported to any office at the Institution of Higher Learning.
And CBU Dean of Students SYLISH MAGIDA has disclosed that the University only recorded one case of suicide which cannot be attributed to academic overload.
Ms. MAGIDA said the reported suicide happened outside the institution and no reasons have been established on what could have led to the unfortunate situation.
And Pheonix ‘s Michael Kaluba has reported that a the same briefing , CBU Vice Chancellor Professor Naison Ngoma said the unsafe approach by students that occurred around midnight over suspended meal allowances could have escalated had management not intervened.
And professor Ngoma said CBU had created and registered an investment holdings company, the CBU-IH, to handle the business side of its innovations, prototypes and all commercial sources of income for the University.
Professor Ngoma said that the launch of the business innovation, coupled with other innovative technologies such as the Zambia Revenue Authority-ZRA- tax online platform, which is currently earning CBU millions as well as the impending computer manufacturing plant, will ensure the university remains self-sustainable.
