By NOEL IYOMBWA

MORE police officers have been deployed at Kasenseli gold mine in Mwinilunga to tighten security after recording a break-in early this month, Zambia Gold Company public relations officer, Liyani Kaputo has said.

Mr Kaputo said the company will soon beef up   security to curb crime at the mine.

He said that so far the company has not recorded any crime from the last incident even though the perpetrators did not manage to achieve their goals as police moved in quickly.

Mr Kaputo commended the security personnel for moving swiftly to prevent any crime being committed.

“So far security is ok and tight. We have not had anything peculiar even though we will need to beef up the current security as you know these people are becoming more sophisticated every day,” he said.

Earlier this month, Police in Mwinilunga shot one person and arrested two others.

This was after over 200 residents tried to force their way into Kasenseli Gold Mine premises.

The mob from nearby villages forced its way into the mine premises but were met by Police who fired rubber bullets to disperse them.

North-Western Province Deputy Police Commissioner Fred Mulenga who confirmed the incident said that one person was shot in the foot with a rubber bullet while two are in Police custody following the incident.

Dr. Mulenga said that the trespassers brought down the security fence but police who were manning the area managed to displace the mob.
