NO VIOLENCE DURING POLLS- UPND

By KALOBWE BWALYA
UPND chairperson for elections Garry Nkombo has warned that the party will not tolerate violence during the fourthcoming by-elections in Kaumbwe, Chisamba constituencies and Lusanganzi District Council whose nominations are slated for next month.
In an interview, Mr Nkombo said the UPND has already started identifying suitable candidates to contest the parliamentary and council chairperson seats.
Mr Nkombo said UPND has so far shortlisted six candidates, including two females and four men seeking to contest the Kaumbwe parliamentary seat.
He said all the candidates have however made a pledge to support whoever would be adopted to contest the seat.
Mr Nkombo has assured the people of violence-free campaigns as the party is responsible for law and order.
He said the UPND would merge victorious and that President Hakainde Hichilema detests violence and such acts would not be condoned.
“We’ll not tolerate any UPND cadre to scratch either a PF or Socialist Party member as they will be arrested and our campaigns will be issue-based and no form of violence will be condoned,” Mr Nkombo said.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set October, 21, 2021 as the date for the by-elections.
