President Hichilema hopeful for a shared commitment to democracy with the USA.

President Hakainde Hichilema says he is hopeful that the shared commitment to democracy between Zambia and the United States of America will result in improved social protection for all citizens.

During his meeting with Congresswoman Karen Bass on Friday  at Capitol Hill, President Hichilema highlighted Zambia’s commitment to a green economy.

President Hichilema singled out investment in smart energy solutions for rural communities as a key area for development cooperation.

 He added the need for efficient boarder management in Zambia in order to simplify the movements of goods and services and people to bolster trade and investment opportunities for citizens.

Noting his concerns over the security situation in Northern Mozambique, Mr Hichilema pledged Zambia’s support in ensuring stability in the region.

And speaking at the same meeting, Congresswoman Bass congratulated President Hichilema on his election victory and applauded his efforts to tackle corruption, strengthen the rule of law and reduce unemployment.

Ms Bass, who serves on the influential house committee on foreign relations and is Chair of the subcommittee on Africa, has further committed to efforts aimed at expanding Zambia’s contribution to global trade and investment, beyond Zambia’s existing revenue streams.
