UPND, VEDANTA CLINCHED DEAL BEFORE POLLS – SABOI

By ADRIAN MWANZA

THE likelihood of Vedanta retaining Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) will vindicate President Edgar Lungu, who alleged that the UPND had cut deals with the Indian investors before elections, NDC President Saboi Imboela has said. Ms Imboela said the return would mean that the UPND clinched a deal with Vedanta even before the August 12 elections.

She said what was going on was just the manifestation of the deals that were brokered by the UPND and Vedanta. Ms Imboela said she could not give the actual details of the arrangements but that it was obvious that the two parties had made some form of agreement.

Ms Imboela said negotiations went on before, during and after the elections and that Zambians would soon learn about it. She said parties received support from various business entities and that this was a similar venture which most people undertook.
