OBEDI KASONGO’S DEATH: KAMBWILI CHALLENGED TO SPEAK OUT

By OLIVER SAMBOKO, RUTH YAMBAYAMBA and SHERRY CHABALA

CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI has been challenged to speak out and restate his earlier statement that former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo killed late NDC member Obedi Kasongo.

National Revolution Party (NRP) president Dr Cozmo Mumba said Mr Kambwili should not remain silent on the matter especially that he is the one who raised the issue in the first place.

He said the people involved in the murder of Mr Kasongo should be found and brought to book so that the family can find closure in the death of their relative.

Dr Mumba said whether Mr Kambwili wants it or not, he is the main witness in this matter.

He cautioned the police against rushing any arrest before they carry out a proper investigation to avoid wasting the case and also wondered why the police did not act on the issue when it was first reported in 2019.

“The police should investigate the matter and not rush into concluding that Mr Lusambo is the one who killed Mr Kasongo,” he said.

And NDC faction leader, Saboi Imboela says Charity Katanga who was then Copperbelt police commissioner prevented the police from taking statements from the victims of the Roan by-election violence.

“They refused to even open a docket for Obed and others after the attack. I personally called the Human Rights Commission to come and see what was happening to us as the opposition,” posted Saboi on her Facebook page.

She said only one named brave policeman finally opened the docket after a lengthy discussion.

“There were over 100 policemen at Mpatamatu police post that day and I started shouting at Katanga that Zambia was our country and we had a right to report violence against us. The only reason why I was not locked up or even beaten by her is because thank God the Human Rights Commission was there,” she said.

Saboi also alleged that about five members of the NDC were brutally beaten, and others arrested from the Copperbelt chairlady’s house including Mr Kasongo’s niece.

She demanded that no matter how long it takes, justice should prevail in the murder of Mr Kasongo and other victims.
