THREE illegal miners among them a thirteen year old juvenile have died while one person is battling for his life after a pit they were working from curved in at Kasenseli Gold Mine in Mwinilunga.
The three died yesterday in the morning after they illegally gained access to Kasenseli Gold Mine where they were mining illegally.
Zambia Gold Mine Site Mining Manager Moses Siyanda said the bodies of the deceased were retrieved around 10:00 hours.
Mr. Siyanda who could not identify the deceased by name revealed that the families had since claimed their remains.
He said the presence of foreigners providing a ready market around the Kasenseli area had led to an increase in illegal gold mining.
And Speaking when he visited the site, Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe revealed that the 80 security officers on site are overwhelmed by the increased number of illegal miners.
He said lives cannot continue to be lost in the name of illegal gold mining at Kasenseli Gold Mine and challenged management to ensure more security officers are deployed.-ZNBC
