KASEMPA COUNCIL CHAIRPERSON ORDERED CADRES TO HARASS ‘ PF’ COUNCIL WORKERS- MINISTER

By JACKSON MAPAPAYI
INFORMATION has emerged that Kasempa Town council chairperson Brian Kakonkanya allegedly allowed UPND cadres to harass council employees perceived to be PF sympathizer.

A horde of UPND cadres last week besieged Kasempa Town Council and locked up the gates demanding the removal of council management members and other employees.

But Local Government and Rural Development minister, Gary Nkombo said it had come to his attention that Mr Kakonkanya allowed the cadres to brutalise the council employees on allegations that they were supporters of the former ruling party.

According to a letter dated 12 October 2021 addressed to Mr Kakonkanya, Mr Nkombo said the behaviour was uncalled for, saying that President Hakainde Hichilema had warned against any acts of lawlessness.

He said if anyone had grievances against public workers, there were right channels that could be followed without taking the law in their own hands.

Mr Nkombo cautioned Mr Kakonkanya against allowing such acts as it had potential to tarnish the name of the party.

When contacted, Mr Kakonkanya said he had not yet received the letter but denied having allowed the cadres to harass council workers.

“I have only seen the letter circulating on social media, but I haven’t yet received the official correspondence. So, I cannot confirm,” said Mr Kakonkanya.
