LUSAKA WATER CONTAMINATED- MASEBO

Health Minister Sylvia Masebo says environmental and water analysis have revealed feacal contamination of water in Kanyama, Kaunda square, Matero, George and Bauleni areas of Lusaka.
This follows rumours of a typhoid outbreak in Lusaka which is being investigated by the disease intelligence units at the Zambia National Public Health Institute.
Ms Masebo says the disease intelligence agency working with the water utility companies, and the local authorities have heightened active surveillance-reporting acted diarrhea cases every morning just like COVID and secured 6000 bottles of liquid chlorine from Red Cross to be distributed today.
Ms Masebo says because this time of the year is associated with food and water borne diseases, authorities have intensified water quality monitoring and engaged the Ministry of Water Development and sanitation to manage the problem in Kaunda square.
And Ms Masebo says the cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccines administered to date is 836,099 broken down as 348,571 Dose 1 vaccinations, 487,528 fully vaccinated and 300,864 single dose J&J vaccinations while 63% of healthcare workers are vaccinated.
Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, 46 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 21 districts out of the 5,912 tests conducted countrywide and no new deaths recorded for the second consecutive day.
