Market, bus station boards to be set up

GOVERNMENT is in the process of establishing management boards for markets and bus stations in an effort to restore order and enhance effective and efficient management and operation of markets and bus stations.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is in the process of establishing management boards for markets and bus stations as provided under part III of the _Markets and Bus Stations Act No.  7 of 2007.

Kitwe Town Clerk Mbulo Seke announced government’s intentions to establish management boards for markets and bus stations in a statement and that the composition of the management boards would include various stakeholders.

“The Kitwe City Council would like to inform members of the public that in an effort to restore order and enhance effective and efficient management and operation of markets and bus stations, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is in the process of establishing management boards for markets and bus stations as provided under part III of the Markets and Bus Stations Act No.  7 of 2007,’’ Mr Seke said.

The composition of the management board will include, one person representing the Ministry responsible for Local Government and Rural Development, one person representing the Ministry responsible for Transport and Logistics.

One person representing the local authority, one person representing a consumer or commuter association, relevant to markets or bus stations in the district, one person from the community in the district.

Others will be three persons representing the marketeers from the market or operators of bus services from a bus station, elected by the marketeers or operators of bus services in the district. 

“The local authority is, therefore, facilitating the nomination marketeersrepresentatives by the prescribed institutions and organisations in (i) to (iv) above, and is scheduled to conduct the election of representatives of marketeers and operators of bus services on Thursday, 14th October, 2021,’’ he said

He said details of the election will be shared with the marketeers and operators of bus services in the markets and bus stations.
