Nkombo assures marketeers, vendors

LOCAL Government and Rural Development minister Gary Nkombo has assured marketeers and vendors in Lusaka that soon they will be allocated space in markets once Simon Mwewa Lane and BM in Soweto are completed.
Mr Nkombo however said there will be order in the manner vendors will be relocated back into the markets through their represesntives, Street Vendors Association of Zambia (SVAZ) and other stakeholders to ensure transparency
Mr Nkombo observed that now that the rain season was around the corner there is need for the local authority to ensure that no vendor is left trading in streets, but in markets.
He said the Simon Mwewa Lane market whose construction started in 2017 is nearing completion.
He said there is need to ensure that traders and vendors reverted to trading in decent trading places.
The minister also said knowing that most of drainages in Lusaka were blocked due to undesignated dumping of garbage, the ministry through Lusaka City Council will soon embark on keep Zambia clean campaign to ensure that drainages are cleaned to avoid floods.
Mr Nkombo bemoaned the filth that has accumulated not only at Soweto market but in the Central Business District.
