Kalandanya sues PF for K13.5m

By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

BWALYA Kalandanya trading as Kalandanya Music Promotions has taken the Patriotic Front (PF) to court for breach of contract and is demanding K13.5 million for the musical services offered to the party during the August 12, 2021, general elections.

Mr Kalandanya stated in documents filed in the Lusaka High Court that following a written agreement signed by both parties on June 12, 2021, he proceeded to record, produce, market and promote over 70 songs and music videos during the 2021 campaign period which include the famous song Solly (Alebwelelapo).

He has cited acting PF Secretary General Nickson Chilangwa as the defendant in the case.

He stated that the contract ran from June 12 to August 10, 2021 which was during the election campaign period.

He said that according to the terms of the parties’ agreement, PF was expected to make full payment during the term of the agreement and in the alternative, within a month after August 10, 2021.

Mr Kalandanya stated that PF has failed to pay the K13.5m owed to him under the agreement.

He said that in a letter dated October 7, 2021, the defendant responded that his matter was being studied and that the party would give a response in due course.

The plaintiff claims that he has been inconvenienced in his operations due to non-payment of the amount in question by PF which has been done in blatant disregard of his wellbeing, without valid justification.

He is therefore claiming payment of K13.5m, damages for breach of contract and interest on the sums found due.
