EMPOWER youths in gold mine areas with mining rights to curb escalating levels of illegal mining activities and prevent the loss the country is incurring ,a mining expert Edward Simukonda has urged the government.
Mr. Simukonda said illegal gold mining activities which rob the country of revenue were being made worse by denying youths mining rights as a way of empowerment.
He said in an interview that the best way to curb the vice is through the issuance of mining licences to youths who have been demanding mining rights.
“My biggest concern about Kasenseli Gold Mine is lack of proper security and we are making it worse by not empowering the youth who are already demanding mining rights, illegal mining is a big danger to the country, they need to be empowered,” he said.
He said the theft of the discovered rich mineral won’t stop until certain measures are put in place because it’s valuable.
