4 PF MEMBERS DENY REMOVING UPND CAMPAIGN MATERIAL

FOUR Patriotic Front security wing members in Kitwe have pleaded not guilty to removing campaign material bearing the name and portrait of United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema.

The four, Kelvin Kanyanda 41, Tenford Lungu 41, Sampa Bweupe 53 and Abuid Chabala 40, are charged with destruction of campaign materials or posters contrary to regulation 42C and 3 of the code of conduct of the Electoral Process Act of 35 of 2016.

Particulars of the offence are that the four on July 3, 2021 being district security wing members of the PF with others unknown, did remove campaign materials for the UPND bearing the name and portrait of the party president, Mr Hichilema. When the matter came up for plea before Magistrate Pumulo Mubita, the four men denied the charge.

And through their lawyer E Chibeluka of Messrs Douglas and Pantners applied for bail pending trial. Magistrate Mubita granted each defendant K5, 000 in their own recognizance with two traceable working sureties in the same sum.
