Fuel stocks to normalize next week

THE country’s fuel stocks are expected to normalise by next week, Energy Minister Peter Kapala has said.

Mr. Kapala said the country was expecting a number of fuel tankers to arrive.

He said that there was no looming shortage of fuel but admits that the current stocks were low.

Mr. Kapala urged the public not to panic or engage in over buying of fuel.

He also urged Energy Regulation Board (ERB) to promote the utilization of renewable energy sources saying Zambia was endowed with renewable energy sources that had remained under developed.

Mr. Kapala said ERB should create a regulatory framework that would attract investments to scale up diversification of the country’s energy mix as opposed to depending on hydro power.

He was speaking in Lusaka yesterday at the Launch of the ERB Service Charter aimed at empowering the public with information to hold ERB accountable to service delivery standards.

And ERB Acting Director General Fred Hangandu said the service charter was a demonstration of the Board’s commitment to accountability in the discharge of its mandate and would ensure effective service delivery. – ZNBC
