GERMANY PLEDGES €7 MILLION TOWARDS ZAMBIA’S PEACEFUL AND DEMOCRATIC TRANSITION AS WELL AS THE NEW GOVERNMENTS REFORM AGENDA
ZAMBIA KEEN ON FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE, CORRUPTION- HH

RREPUBLICAN President, Hakainde Hichilema says his New Dawn Administration is committed to the fight against climate change as well as ending rampant corruption in Zambia.

And President Hichilema has appealed for financial support towards the country’s shift from dependence on charcoal and other environmentally hazardous sources of energy to sustainable and renewable ones.

Speaking when the Germany Chancellor’s Personal Representative to Africa, Gunter Nooke and Germany Ambassador to Zambia, Anne Wagner-Mitchell paid a courtesy call on him at State House today, Mr Hichilema stressed that Zambia appreciated Germany’s unwavering support to the country towards water and sanitation, energy and good governance in the past years.

The Head-of-State was, however quick to clarify that his Government’s relentless fight against corruption was devoid of witch-hunt and ethnicity.

President Hichilema, who acknowledged Germany as a key economic player in the world, also appealed that country’s support in ICT development in order to digitalize operations in Government institutions, adding that analogue profiling has been a recipe for corrupt practices in the past.

President Hichilema said he is determined to engage various countries such as Germany in combating climate change, charging that Zambia needed urgent financial support in order to provide its citizenry with alternative, clean and renewable sources of energy.

And Mr Nooke said the stance that the New Dawn Administration had taken towards enhancing social economic reforms and agenda as well as its zero-tolerance on corruption and its support towards enhancing good governance and human rights was encouraging, adding that the Germany Government is encouraged to help Zambia address its debt crisis.

Mr Nooke also shared plans to give Zambia €7 million funding as a sign of the Government’s support to Zambia’s peaceful and democratic transition and the new Government’s transformation agenda.
