Rainbow Party condemns ‘cliques’ statement

By SILUMESI MALUMO

ZAMBIANS should forgive President Hakainde Hichilema for calling former Presidents and other leaders as a clique of thieves, Rainbow Party national spokesperson Humphrey Kabwe has said.

Mr Kabwe said however the party is extremely disappointed with the statement because those he called thieves some of them gave him free education for him to be where he is today.

“The statement is irresponsible, unacceptable and an insult to our former Presidents and other leaders that have ruled this country before.

Today he is President of Zambia because some former leaders he is calling a clique of thieves, gave him free education and inspired him to become the President of this great republic.

Mr Kabwe also advised Mr Hichilema to stop projecting himself as the only righteous leader or an archangel that has ruled this country.

Meanwhile, the Green Party says the statement on Saturday by President Hakainde Hichilema at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) on his return from the COP26 summit in Glasgow was enough to impeach him.

The party’s president, Mr Peter Sinkamba made the observation in an interview, saying the statement was a breach of the constitution and must not be allowed to continue.

He said violation of the constitution was a strong case for impeaching a President.

Mr Sinkamba, who was commenting on President Hichilema’s statement said it was regrettable that the President was reported to have spoken ill of the previous governments accusing them of being a clique of thieves.

He said that this statement was divisive and injurious to the dignity of others.
