UNION CAUTIONS GOVERNMENT OVER MANDATORY VACCINES

By IRVIN MUYUMBWA

Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSWUZ) has cautioned that the pronouncement by Government for civil servants to be vaccinated to access their work places should not be effected until the consultative process with unions is exhausted.

CSWUZ President Davy Chiyobe says it will be unfair on the part of Government to implement this pronouncement before the consultative process indicated by the Minister of Health is concluded.

Mr Chiyobe says it is only through this consultative process that the union will state their position on the government pronouncement as to whether to be for or against the directive.

He says the pronouncement cannot be effected immediately because there has to be a window   to allow the process of consultation with labour leaders instead of rubber stamping the idea.

Mr Chiyobe says what should be taken into cognizance is that the civil servants have rights which should be upheld through the consultative process.

On Monday Health Minister Sylvia Masebo announced new measures that bar civil servants who are not fully vaccinated from accessing their work places until they show proof of having received the jab.
