100 DAYS OF PF REBRANDING

Dear Editor,

THERE is hype on the 100 days of UPND in power and how far they have succeeded in meeting people’s expectations. My focus is on the 100 days of PF rebranding.

I really do not like the word, because it is borrowed from the commercial world and denotes very cosmetic change.

We should know that language is embedded within a philosophical framework, and talking about rebranding fails short of the critical need for serious reforms.

After these 100 days of Isambo lyamfwa (electoral defeat of 12 August 2021) and the need to move methodically towards the June 2022 elective conference, PF should instead of “rebranding” launch the “back to basics campaign.”

The campaign should be about reclaiming the lost ethos of the organisation as pro-poor party.

It is an open secret why PF lost the elections. It is not because UPND was too strong. No. It is because people had lost confidence in the PF. With the death of the founder, king-philosopher, Michael Chilufya Sata, the space was created for a gang that captured the party, and ultimately the state for its own ends.

While shouting pro-poor slogans on the left, it went on rampage on the right, creating a culture called “tenderneurship.”

MIKE CHUNGU.
