CHINGOLA COUNCIL CLOSES 24 BARS, WEDDINGS AND CHURCHES OVER COVID GUIDELINES

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

THE Chingola Municipal Council Public Health inspectors in conjunction with Zambia Police (ZP) last weekend closed 24 bars, three weddings, and three churches for operating outside covid-19 health guidelines.

The council has since expressed sadness that some bar owners still operate outside stipulated hours and that some churches do not instruct their members to mask up and practice social distancing.

Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Nambela Kyombela said that during the inspections conducted on Friday January 7, 2022, one (01)bar had its license revoked for opening its business before the guided time.

She said the following morning on Saturday January 8, 2022 several churches were cautioned, charged and sensitized on the importance of adhering to Covid-19 health guidelines.

“The Ministerial directive by the Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo is clear that masking up, social distancing and operating within stipulated hours among other health guidelines should be adhered to.

“Therefore the local authority will not take lightly anyone operating beyond the stipulated time and the guided health guidelines,” she said.

The weekend operations were conducted in Buyantashi, Mwaiseni, Chiwempala, Kapisha, Kabundi,Lulamba and Town Centre.
