IMPROVE ON SCHOOL GRANTS – MUSHIMBA

By ADRIAN MWANZA

GOVERNMENT should quickly work on the teething problems that come with the awarding of grants to all schools because it is not easy, former Higher Education Minister Brian Mushimba has said.

Dr Mushimba said that the move to introduce free education by the government was commendable but that there was need to ensure that they quickly work on the challenges that may arise in the rolling out of the grants.

He said the fact that the money was released but was not sufficient was something that was expected and that they just have to address the problem.

“When you start a programme this big, you expect teething problems but the fact that they have shown commitment and resolve, we hope they will work on the shortfalls identified,” he said.

Dr Mushimba said the new dawn administration just needed to internalise the feedback from the stakeholders.

He said the move to introduce free education was commendable because every Zambian vulnerable or not, deserved to have an education.

Dr Mushimba said education in primary schools was free in the previous government however the new administration had gone a step further and introduced it to secondary schools.
