By MAKOKWA CLARA MUYENDEKWA

A 34-YEAR-OLD businessman of Choma has pleaded guilty to stoning his mother in-law over custody of his daughter.

Bright Kabuswe of Chandamali compound appeared in the Choma Magistrates Court facing one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to the laws of Zambia.

On January 2, 2022, Kabuswe is alleged to have assaulted Mr Beauty Munkombwe thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm.

When called to take plea by state prosecutor Coilard Sikwalulwa before principal resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo, Kabuswe pleaded admitted the charge.

He testified that his mother in-law was in a drunken state when he went to get his daughter for her to start school but in the process of arguing she hit him with a half pan brick which he also later picked and threw at her thereby hitting her.

Due to his justification on why he stoned the complainant the court has since recorded a plea of not guilty.

The state could not however proceed to trial in the matter as Mr Sikwalulwa informed the court that they needed some time to secure the presence of witnesses in court.

Magistrate Mupemo adjourned the matter to January 26, 2022 for commencement of trial will remanding Kabuswe in custody.
