PF CONDEMNS UPND CADRES HARASSMENT OF CIVIL SERVANTS

By ANDREW MUKOMA

The harassment of civil servants by suspected UPND cadres in Kasama has been condemned by the Patriotic Front youth wing in Livingstone.

Constituency youth chairman, Ikuka Muleta, said that the conduct by the cadres was uncalled for and illegal as it is not backed by any provision of the law.

In an interview Mr Muleta said political cadres have no right or justification to harass government workers under any circumstance.

“It is with great dismay that we have noticed high levels of hooliganism being exhibited by some political cadres under the pretext of politicking. One such example is a video circulating on social media in which alleged UPND cadres are seen harassing a public service employee in Kasama,” he said

Mr Muleta said that if cadres have any grievance against any government official, they should channel such through relevant authorities who should independently assess the complaint and find a lasting solution.

“Cadres should also be reminded that civil servants are qualified to do the work tasked to them professionally hence they should be allowed to work without any harassment or intimidation,” he said.

He said that there is need for the UPND leadership to tame its cadres failure to which the situation will lead to disaster.

Mr Muleta said that of late, the opposition PF has noticed the violent behaviour being exhibited by UPND cadres even on social media.

He has described the situation as a time bomb waiting to explode.
