Southern Province has adequate chemicals for  armyworms – Ministry of Agriculture

By ANDREW MUKOMA

ADEQUATE chemicals have been given out to all the districts in Southern Province to fight fall army worms, the Ministry of Agriculture has said.

Provincial Agriculture Coordinator (PACO) Max Choombe has said that each district has received between 800 to 1,000 litres of chemical which will be distributed according to the affected areas in the camps.

The region is one of the provinces in the country which is usually attacked by fall army worms nearly every planting season.

In view of this, the PACO has advised farmers in the province to be on the lookout for any possible outbreak of fall army worms.

He has advised farmers to be vigilant by regularly checking on their fields.

Dr Choombe has also advised farmers to be cautious as they apply top dressing fertilizer to avoid losing most of it to run away waters due to the current heavy rains the province was experiencing.

He said that farmers can consider applying the urea fertilizer on different days after carefully observing the weather.
