Utility companies still owing Zesco US$843m

WATER utility companies and mines are owing Zesco over US$843 million in unpaid electricity bills.

Zesco Corporate Affairs manager John Kunda has said that water utility companies are owing US$43 million while mining companies are owing US$800 million making it difficult for the utility company to sustain its operations.

Dr Kunda said there is a need for the money to be recovered for the company to stabilise its balance sheets.

He said the power utility company is operating in an environment where it is very difficult to make profits.

Dr Kunda said Zesco is also making losses in electricity service charges as well as the charges on every connection as these too are also heavily subsidised. He said there are only a few sectors where Zesco is making profits such as the Kariba North Bank Extension but overall the company is making losses. – MILLENIUM TV.
