45 year old steals a goat from 52 year old woman

A 45 year old man has told the Choma magistrate court that he stole a goat from an old woman so he could exchange it for a bag of fertilizer.

The gardener who also admitted to skinning the goat and selling it to people in Kamunza compound in order to raise money.

Felix Sianyanga of Chigunta village in  chief Cooma’s area of Choma District was in this case charged with stock theft contrary to section 275 of the penal code of the laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that on a date unknown but between February 8, 2022 and February 9, 2022 the accused  did steal a goat valued at k650 property of Stela Siatandila.

Brief facts before court were that the 52 year old complainant of Siachoobe village secured her goats before going to sleep on February 8, 2022.

She then woke up the  following day around 05:00  hours and went to the field without checking the goats.

When returning in the evening she was  approached by Veg Ngwanza who told her that she should see a  Mr Godwin because he had information of a person carrying a goat similar to hers.

She then followed up the accused after she was told that he had gone to Kamunza with the goat.

The Complainant met with the chairman of Kamunza compound who assisted in tracing the accused as he had been seen selling goat meat in a  bag.

The accused was then apprehended after reporting the matter to Choma Police and was   found with the skin of the goat.

During plea before Magistrate Muyambango Munukayumbwa the accused person admitted to the charge.

He asked for lenience from the court saying he was married with five children and looked after six orphans.

He added that he was looking after his old grand mother who needed his help from time to time.

Magistrate Munukayumbwa said the accused had shown remorse and was a first time offender who readily admitted to the charge and sentenced him to nine months imprisonment effective February 15, 2022 his date of arrest.
