Africa needs to unite to achieve economic growth – Hichilema

AFRICA needs to remain united if the continent is to achieve economic growth which is the key to reducing poverty, President Hakainde Hichilema has said.

President Hichilema when making his maiden speech at the African Union (AU), said that Africa was endowed with natural wealth and that it had the capacity to eradicate poverty.

He said that Africa had the capacity to produce food that would be sufficient to feed the whole continent and increase value addition.

The Head of State however, said that wars and other forms of confusion had the capacity to increase poverty on the continent.

“We need to fight poverty by remaining committed to continental peace, security and stability which are issues everyone needed to take part in,” he said.

President Hichilema said that there was need to change the African narrative which included corruption and even war,  which had marred the continent for a long time.

He said that there was need to ensure that African leaders adhered to the rule of law for the continent to prosper.
