‘Spending K1m on a logo unacceptable’
By Jackson Mapapayi
Spending K1 million to change the logo of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) was unacceptable, a governance activist, in Solwezi John Kalusa has observed .
Mr Kalusa said the amount spent is way too much though service provision is costly in the country.
He said the ECZ should be put to task to justify and explain how it came up with such an amount. Mr Kalusa said the amount cannot be accepted even by a layman.
“That cannot be accepted, let the commission justify item by item. Otherwise this is excessive expenditure,” said Mr Kalusa.
He wondered how urgent or necessary it was for the commission to change the logo.
“What would have been the implications if the old logo was maintained? Or was it changed so urgently for other reasons? But if it was urgent and it can be justified, that’s fine. However, the amount is too colossal, “Mr Kalusa said.
He has appealed to the powers that be to take keen interest in the matter especially that the new dawn government does not such things.
