Debt restructuring key – HH

By NATION REPORTER

DEBT restructuring and prioritisation of public expenditure is key in my administration and this is why we say no to corruption and all forms of theft of public resources, President Hakainde Hichilema has said.

President Hichilema said these things if left unchecked eroded investor confidence as evidenced in the past.

He said his administration was working hard to ensure that the country’s debt was restructured to start yielding positive results.

Mr Hichilema said this when he met with the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) President Akinwumi Adesina.

The two discussed a number of issues in the interest of growing the economy, creating jobs and business opportunities for Zambians.

“We discussed matters of the Zambian debt burden and shared how we are working round the clock to ensure that our economy is revived as well as make the debt sustainable,” he said.

President Hichilema said that he was confident that these engagements would lead to a robust and stable economy.

He said Zambia was getting better and will be better looking at the trajectory at which it was moving at.

Mr Hichilema also said Africa’s over one billion people comprising mostly women and youths were in dire need of better jobs and business opportunities.

“That is what should be preoccupying our daily activities as African leaders and we are optimistic that our continent can rise up to the challenge,” he said.
