‘We will not condone Hezbollah insurgents’

By ADRIAN MWANZA

We are going to fish out any terrorist groups that want to infiltrate the country, Defence Minister Ambrose Lufuma has said.

Mr Lufuma in an interview said the government was aware that there were two firms linked to the Hezbollah terrorist group and that they would investigate the matter thoroughly.

He said the Defence ministry was working closely with the intelligence and that they had deployed security details in places they suspected were hot spots.

Mr Lufuma said that no terrorist groups would go scotfree as the police and the ministry of Defence were on top of things.

“One thing I can assure you is that we’re closely monitoring the situation and I can assure you that we not going to let any terrorist activities,” he said. He said it was unfortunate that Zambian firms Hamer and Nail Construction and Hamidco Investment were linked to terrorism but that they would first carry out thorough investigations.

Recently, ministry of Home Affairs spokesperson Nephas Chifuta confirmed that the National Anti-Terrorism Centre was investigating the two firms.

Mr Lufuma however said they would not leave any stone unturned and that Zambia was no place to conduct terrorism activities.
