Postpone PF convention – Fube

By NATION REPORTER

THE Patriotic Front should not be in a hurry to host the elective general conference and should consider postponing for the party to restructure at the grassroots, Chilubi Member of Parliament, Mulenga Fube, has said.

Mr Fube said it was important for the party to postpone the convention and concentrate on rebuilding the party after losing power to the UPND.

He said the problem with choosing a president now would be that the man to take over the reins from former Republican President Edgar Lungu would be subjected to serious attacks from the ruling UPND.

“For me, my appeal to the members of the central committee is that they should not be in a hurry to vote in a new leader but we should first ensure that we strengthen the grassroots then we can usher in a new leader,” he said.

Mr Fube said he would not attach a time frame to when the convention should be held but that after they had achieved this objective.

He said that they should take a leaf from the UPND which for a long time did not have a convention but they managed to ascend to power.

Meanwhile, PF mobilisation chairperson Geoffrey Mwamba said the central committee would soon meet to decide the way forward. He however said the convention was very important and that the party needed to choose a leader as soon as possible. “I cannot say much about the convention since the central committee is going to be meeting anytime soon to chart the way forward,” Mr Mwamba said.
