DISMANTLE ACC -FUBE

...investigative wing is tainted

By NATION REPORTER

THE integrity of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been seriously tainted and it should be disbanded, Chilubi Member of Parliament Mulenga Fube has said.

Mr Fube said the suspension of a senior officer Christopher Siwakwi for unbecoming conduct was reason enough for the entire ACC to be disbanded.

Mr Siwakwi, an investigative officer, prior to his suspension was implicated in the disappearance of around US$9, 000 from the ACC vault in unexplained circumstances.

Stakeholders also raised alarm over his conduct as he was the one implicated in a leaked audio soliciting for a bribe from then Infrastructure Minister Ronald Chitotela in 2019 to drop an investigation against him.

Mr Fube said the allegations should not be taken lightly because the consequences were grave.

He explained that a number of people had raised alarm that there were a number of officers living lavish lifestyles prior to Mr Siwakwi’s suspension.

The image of the ACC, he said, was seriously tarnished because of the action of one of their investigators who had been cited on several occasions of being involved in activities that were not in good faith.

Mr Fube said what was needed was to have a complete overhaul and bring in new faces that would uphold transparency in the fight against corruption.

“The ACC needs an overhaul because the individuals tasked to investigate corruption activities are compromised and are not executing their duties diligently,” he said.

Mr Fube said it would be very difficult for the public to have faith in the ACC because some of their officers have been painted in a very bad light.

Meanwhile, Economic Front president Wynter Kabimba said the ACC needed to reconcile the statement made three weeks ago over individuals that doubted its integrity.

Mr Kabimba said they categorically indicated that the ACC was transparent but that the revelations proved otherwise.
