THE UPND should not be preoccupied with intimidating political opponents, but must respond convincingly to the issues which have risen in the recent past which include a leaked audio, President Hakainde Hichilema’s trip to South Africa and the barbaric conduct of its cadres,” the Patriotic Front (PF) has demanded.
PF Copperbelt Media Director Munalula Moola said in less than six months of the “new dawn” administration being in office, government, Zambians have seen unexplained deals, unruly conduct of the UPND cadres and the most worrying of all, was the unexplained leaked audio between State House Special Assistant for Political Affairs Levy Ngoma and Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Josephs Akafumba
Mr Moola also said intimidating political opponents or any stakeholders whenever they raise concerns or demand an explanation on a number of things will only serve to create suspicions and speculations among the citizens including those who voted for the ruling party.
In an interview in Kitwe yesterday, Mr Moola said the new dawn administration of President Hichilema must demonstrate or exhibit the caring and responsible leadership it promised by being honest, truthful, responsible and accountable to the people.
Mr Moola said by being responsible and accountable to Zambians, the new dawn administration must ensure that it responds convincingly to the issues of the leaked audio, President Hichilema trip to South Africa and the barbaric conduct of its cadres.
“The UPND has turned out to be a very irresponsible ruling party with no regard for its citizens. Yes, they have been very irresponsible because in the less than six months of being in government, they have done nothing progressive apart from political persecution and harassing political opponents
“UPND must know that Zambians are watching and are so disgusted with their conduct. Within a short time in government, there is an audio plotting against the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) electoral officer, their cadres are beating up civil servants. There is also the President’s trip to South Africa which Zambians are demanding for an explanation,” Mr Moola said
He said, from the time the UPND formed government, it has not done anything, apart from using the Drug Enforcement Commission, the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Zambia Police Service to intimidate and persecute political opponents
He said, while the law enforcement agencies were being used to persecute political opponents, the poverty levels in the country have continued to worsen despite the new dawn administration boasting that it was the best government the country has ever had
Mr Moola said most Zambians now regret voting for the UPND because they were misled and lied to by capitalists and dishonest politicians who have now proved to be heartless. He said it was mere flattery to continue singing praises of President Hichilema in the less than six months he has been in office when the situation on the ground is that people are more hungry and poverty-stricken now than they were when PF was in government.
Mr Moola said it was sad that in trying to keep their party and government positions, most individuals had continued to sing praises for President Hichilema despite knowing that Zambia was heading for doom under the new dawn administration.
