Christians should lead in curbing divorce Cases

Zambia National Service Commander Maliti Solochi has urged Christians to be in the forefront of curbing the high divorce rate  by living examples.

Lieutenant General Solochi says there is need to embrace the value of tolerance, forgiveness and caring for one another if the country is to arrest the unfortunately skyrocketing divorce cases.

Lt. Gen. Solochi, who is also an evangelist, noted that there are couples who have given meaning to the three values by remaining in a loving relationship for decades, showing the world that long lasting marriages are possible in this era.

“There is need for more of us married couples to join them in breathing more life into the heavenly ordained and sanctioned marriage institution,” he said.

Gen Solochi was speaking at the 20th marriage anniversary of Abraham and Caroline Chisenga in Kabwe on Monday.

He said the example set by the Chisengas can only be done by emulating their love, support, care, tolerance and commitment to each other.

Gen Solochi said when God ordained marriage, he created a physical relationship which would mirror his relationship with people.

“The covenant of marriage parallels the covenant of union we should have with God,” he said.

Gen. Solochi added that when God made a covenant with his people at Mount Sinai, he made clear the kind of guidelines which would best nurture a healthy relationship.

“The 10 commandments were consequently given as principles which would guard the covenant,” Gen. Solochi said.

He said  just as there are principles which protect the relationship with God, there are principles also which protect the earthly relationship between partners.

“The guidelines are similar as they depict their imperativeness if sound relationships are to be cultivated,” he said. – Zambia National Service
