By MUKWIMA CHILALA

EXPECTATIONS are high among health professional bodies ahead of the announcement of successful candidates in the health workers’ recruitment exercise.

Government is expected to announce the 11, 200 names of candidates who have been recruited in the health sector.

Some unemployed health workers have over the last few months been at loggerheads with the government citing delays and lack of a clear roadmap in the recruitment process.

But Biomedical Association of Zambia president Daniel Mwimbe is confident that the recruitment will not be pushed any further than Friday.

Mr Mwimbe said the process has dragged for a long time and the association is hopeful that come Friday the names will be released.

And Mr Mwimbe also said the association is hopeful that the recruitment exercise has been corruption-free and transparent.

Mr Mwimbe said he was also hopeful that all those who have been selected where picked on merit and not any other grounds.

He said this is cardinal in the growth of the health sector and ensuring the provision of quality health care services to the people.

And chairman of the unemployed doctors Wallace Ndumba said the government must be commended for fulfilling on what was promised to the unemployed health workers as well as the nation.

Dr Ndumba said the association is looking forward to more recruitment exercises.

He said there are still a lot of health workers who have been left out.
