Malanji’s attack sign of shielding unruly cadres

THE attack on Kwacha Member of Parliament Joe Malanji is a clear manifestation of what cadres are capable of doing if they are being shielded, National Democratic Congress (NDC) secretary general Charles Kabwita has said.

Mr Kabwita said the continued shielding of cadres by UPND was the reason their supporters were breaking the law with impunity.

He said UPND should double check the stories they were telling the public that caderism has ended when their supporters have attacked people in a space of two days.

Mr Kabwita said a few days ago the Kafue DEBS office was attacked by suspected UPND cadres and in the same vein, Mr Malanji was attacked when he was handing over furniture at Bulangililo clinic in his constituency.

He said what Mr Malanji was doing was within his jurisdiction as MP because he was just presenting what he had promised to his constituency.

Mr Kabwita said it was unfortunate that the cadres caused chaos at the clinic and a lot of people got injured in the process including some patients.

He said the police should seriously look into this matter and bring the perpetrators to book because this was getting out of hand.

Mr Kabwita said the police should quickly move in and arrest criminals who were behind this because the people who were involved were well-known and the incident happened during the day.

He said if the UPND continued to reject the cadres who break the law in their name and if this continued it had potential to generate into anarchy.

Mr Kabwita said taking caderism off the camera does not mean they have ended caderism because the only thing that would bring caderism to an end was punishing offenders whenever they break the law.
