By GIDEON NYENDWA

WE’VE never discussed any motion to lift the presidential immunity of the former president, Mr Edgar Lungu either at party or cabinet level, UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has said.

Mr Mweetwa, who is also Southern Province Minister said they were not preview to such kind of position.

He said he was speaking as an insider both as a minister and the party spokesperson when he featured on a live radio programme on Phoenix FM.

He said the only thing he was aware of was that UPND youths reacted emotionally to the way President Hakainde Hichilema was mistreated in the past by the previous government.

Mr Mweetwa said there was no persecution of the opposition going on because the investigative wings were acting independently without any interference.

He said the opposition had run out of ideas on how to criticise the UPND leadership because whatever they thought was impossible to achieve was now working under its government.

Mr Mweetwa said when the government made the pronouncement on free education the opposition rose and said it was not attainable but now that it was working they had shifted their attention to the teacher pupil ratio and their cries had been answered by the recruitment of over 30, 000 teachers.

He also said when the UPND government increased the Constituency Development Fund from K1.6 million to K25.7 millon, they were arguing that the money was too much and the constituencies would fail to utilize it but to their surprise everything was working very well.

Mr Mweetwa said everyone was proud of the UPND including the opposition because of the number of things they have been able to achieve in such a short time of being in government

“They are just playing politics but they know,” he said. He also asked Zambians to judge them based on the five-year mandate they had given to them to take over the leadership of this country and not the few months that they have been in office.
