By KETRA KALUNGA

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema and the former head of State, Edgar Lungu, are brothers, we expect harmony between them and not hostility, traditional leaders have said.

Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people said traditional leaders would be happy to see Mr. Hichilema and Mr. Lungu live in harmony because they are brothers.

Chief Mpezeni said in an interview that there should be no enmity between them because they are the only remaining leaders Zambians were looking up to for national unity.

“I will be happy to see them live in harmony because they are brothers and this is what unity means. There should be no hostility between them because they are the only remaining Presidents,” he said.

And Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba said there should be no hostility but tolerance and acceptance between the two men.

Paramount Chief Chitimukulu said there should be mature understanding, sharing of ideas and experiences between  Mr. Hichilema and Mr Lungu because ruling a country is not easy.

“I am very encouraged by the words from UPND spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa that they expect the two to have a cordial relationship. Those are very encouraging words and they have my blessings. That is what we expect,” he said.

Chief Cooma of the Tonga people said in an interview that it was important for Mr. Hichilema and Mr Lungu to live in peace and unify the country.

He said to be a leader, one has to love everyone, therefore there should be no enmity between the current and former head of state, that way, the country would prove to the world that it is indeed a democratic nation.

Chief Cooma has also commended Mr. Mweetwa for showing leadership and called on all Zambians to support such statements aimed at uniting the country.
